Ytterbium fluoride, YbF3 or also called Ytterbium trifluoride, is an excellent radio opaque material that is used in dental applications such as composite fillings or dentla posts. Beneficial in these applications is the optical transpanency of the Ytterbium fluoride that allows optimum aesthetical apperance of the products.

 

Ytterbiumfluoride is moreover used as coating material in optical coatings.

 

Additionally Ytterbium fluoride is an excellent Yttrium source for oxygen sensitive applications e.g. in organic synthesis.
